The bottom of the picture shows the surface of the area and looks like desert sand but hard forming rounding shapes. On the left side of the photo is a sand mountain made with many rounded pillars that are side-by-side to form the mountain and are the color of sand. The pillars look like they were made layer by layer over a long period of time. In the background are several other sand mountains.
