Mary's Childhood
Hannah kept her promise to God and after Mary's birth she wrapped the baby in a shawl and handed her over to the Temple Elders. Mary's father died before her birth so her Uncle Zechariah acted as her guardian during her childhood. Zechariah built a separate room for Mary in the Temple and saw to her daily needs.
One day Zechariah was surprised to find fresh fruit which was out of season in Mary's room. When asked how the fruit got there, she replied that these provisions were from God, as He gives to whom He wills. Zechariah understood by this that God had raised Mary's status above that of other women.
