At the bottom of the picture is the clear blue water of Lake Layla. Near the shore and on the right hand side of the picture are tall green grass-like bushes. Next to the bushes is a wide path down to the water that is perhaps made of stone with a few children playing on the path and in the water. There is the same grass-like bushes on the other side of the path and behind the bushes are 2 small white trucks and 1 white car. Behind the automobiles is a square tent with a pitched roof perhaps 10 feet square. Near the middle of the picture is an adult man squatting wearing a Saudi Arabian Thobe (a loose fitting long sleeve white robe) with a red and white ghutra (headscarf) wrapped around his head. In the background beyond the cars and tent is the barren sandy desert of Saudi Arabia with a light blue sky above.   Back to Lake Layla Photo Page

Camping on the shore Lake Layla near the edge of Rub Al-Khali (the Empty Quarter) in Saudi Arabia. This photograph taken was in 1980 when the lake still provided a refreshing change from life in the city.
